Between Walls

“When were you going to tell me you were married?” I asked calmly as Tony came out of the bathroom.

“Huh?” He asked innocently.

“You heard me! Your wife just called!” I yelled holding up his cell phone.

“Babe…” he started.

“Get out!” I screamed as I threw his phone at him, aiming for his head. He ducked.

“Babe, let me explain,” he said as he picked up his phone off the floor.

“I said get out,” I repeated as coldly as I could.

He walked towards me reaching out his arms. “Babe, you don’t understand. We’re separated. We’re divorcing.”

“You said you were divorced.”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to lie to you. I just wanted to get to know you.”

“Tony, get your lying behind out of my house, now!” I yelled.

He threw his hands up and sighed. He looked at me. I stared at him. He grabbed his clothes and walked out of my bedroom. A few minutes later I heard the front door close.  I sat on the side of the bed, put my head in my hands and cried. I couldn’t believe this.

The man that I was falling in love with was married.

The man I was falling in love with had lied to me.

The man I was falling for was somebody else’s man.
